Children need a place to turn when hope is lost and the streets seem to be there only refuge. Survival on the streets should not be a Childs main goal. Children need a chance to grow up, to have people in their lives that will listen and encourage them to reach their potential as compassionate energetic young people. If given a chance their possibilities are endless. Compass House gives children the chance to turn there young lives around. Founded in 1972 by Trinity Episcopal Church and the Junior League of Buffalo Compass House has helped countless teens discover a safe haven away from the dangers of the streets. Compass House encourages children's self dignity, respect and self reliance. While giving children a warm safe place to rest, eat, and shower, Compass House trained professionals are on hand to give guidance to these children in need. Compass House is an outreached hand to children in search of direction. Child runaways reached over 19,000 in New York State alone in the past year, over 1,000 in Erie County. The National Center for Missing Children estimates that 75 percent of runaways returned home voluntarily or were returned home by police. While the rest-likely more than 4,000 across the state- haven't been heard from.
